Join Adaptive Design Hudson Valley for a hands-on, introductory course focused on designing and fabricating custom assistive devices using cardboard — a low-cost, highly adaptable material that can be applied across a wide range of clinical and community settings.

Course Agenda & Learning Objectives

Introduction to Adaptive Design Hudson Valley (30 min.)
Participants will gain an overview of ADHV, our mission, and our human-centered, collaborative approach to adaptive device creation.

Client & Group Mock Assessment
 (30 min.)
Participants will practice mock client assessment and collaborative problem solving, mirroring real-world communication between therapists, families, and fabricators.

Cardboard Carpentry & Tool Safety
 (30 min.)
Participants will learn cardboard carpentry fundamentals, material properties, and essential tool safety practices for fabrication.

Problem Solving & Design (30 min.)
Participants will translate assessment findings into functional design concepts and plan a custom adaptive device.

Lunch Break
 (30 min.)
BYO lunch or purchase locally.

Device Build
 (1 hour)
Participants will design and fabricate a custom adaptive device using cardboard-based construction techniques.

Device Share, Q&A, and Course Feedback
 (30 min.)
Participants will engage in peer learning through device sharing, discussion, reflection, and feedback.

Participants will receive a certificate of completion and 4 CEU credits upon completion of the course. Adaptive Design Hudson Valley is an AOTA Approved Provider of professional development. This introductory activity is offered at 4 CEUs.
